We provide monthly half-day or daylong retreats and annual 5-to-10-day retreats to advance students’ Zen practice. We will be practicing Doubting Meditation or huatou (Chn. huatou, Jpn. wato, Krn. hwadu) in retreats, although we accept meditators from other meditation centers using their methods. If you are new to or interested in this meditation method, you may sign up for the Online Zen School and enroll in Bridging Class for the basic skill of Doubting Meditation. The tuition is free; donations are welcome. For a better teaching-learning experience, limited seats are available; advance registration is required. Sign up for your friends or families if they want to come to the in-person classes with you. Bring your meditation cushion along as we do not provide shared cushions. Emails us at friend@nonezencenter.org if you have any questions regarding the class information or meditation cushions.
Half-day and daylong retreats serve as the monthly checking point to evaluate meditators’ practice of that month, as the 3rd session of the ongoing 3-session Sitting Sessions series. The in-person monthly retreats will taking place in the San Jose Center at 1680 The Alameda, Ste C, San Jose, CA 95126 on Saturdays from 10-11:45am for half-day retreats and 10am-3:30pm for daylong retreats. Students may join the monthly retreats remotely via Zoom. However, the Zoom retreats won’t be available when we host the retreats outdoors. Shifu (Teacher or Master) Linda or Shifu Jeremy will lead the guided meditation and group sharing, accept questions or give lectures, and evaluate students’ progress at the end of the retreat.
Besides San Jose Center’s classes, Shifu Linda and Shifu Jeremy lead real-time Zoom monthly retreats for practitioners in two other time zones, UK (UTC+0 or UTC+1 for daylight saving time) and Taiwan (UTC+8). You may find the sitting session calendar and sign up for the classes of your desired time zone(s) to receive the class updates, reminders, and Zoom links.
- Find the class calendar for UK (UTC+0 or UTC+1 for daylight saving time) half-day retreats (Zoom class only, taking place on Saturdays 7-8:45am, GMT, starting from March, 2022).
- Find the class calendar for for Taiwan (UTC+8) half-day retreats (Hybrid class: Zoom class and in-person class are available on Saturdays 10-11:45am).
Annual Retreats (find Retreat 2022) are intensive training to help practitioners deepen their Zen experiences, break through the forms of duality, and see the true nature of self within a set time period. Each year, we provide annual 5-to-10-day Zen Retreats mainly for students in the Advanced Class and Disciple Program yet reserve a couple of seats for practitioners interested in joining the training. When the in-person annual retreats are unavailable, we provide Around-the-clock (see the example of Retreat 2021) intensive 3-day retreats via Zoom to serve the global Zen community.
We provide vegetarian meals in Daylong and Annual Retreats. Annual Retreat participants will be required to pay for the retreat fees (mainly board and lodging expenses), however, all classes provided by the None Zen Center are tuition-free. We do ask that you consider providing a donation. Your gifts make it possible for us to keep the None Zen Center operating, and for people to learn and practice Zen continuously.
You may give the gift at the Center or donate online.
When you complete your donation, you will receive a prompt receipt from PayPal. We will provide you with an annual receipt between January 10 to February 20 for the gifts we receive from you the previous year due to the lack of resources. If you need to receive the receipts earlier, please email us at friend@nonezencenter.org.
