The Beginning to Practice Doubting Meditation Retreat Series 2022-2023 will take place from 9 pm December 30th, 2022, to 7 pm January 1st, 2023 (PST, UTC-8). Practitioners are to read 12 sections of Dahui Zonggao’s (大慧宗杲, 1089 – 1163) teaching in his legendary Treasury of the Eye of True Teaching (正法眼藏) to learn how to practice doubting meditation (or huatou 話頭 as in traditional Chinese term). Zen beginners and seasoned practitioners are both welcome. Previous doubting meditation experience is not required.
The hybrid retreat will run around the clock, 24 hours a day, to serve the global community. What is Dharma-Dana?
As we approach the end of 2022, we want to encourage ourselves and the Zen Community to build up our meditation habit and constantly investigate Zen our self-nature, through the practice of Dharma-Dana.
Dharma-Dana (or in Chinese 法布施, fa-bu-shi), is the practice of sharing our spiritual support with each other. Just like how Zen masters share the teaching of Zen with practitioners, we as Zen practitioners can also share spiritual support with each other through mutual encouragement.
“Share your Zen Space”
From 1 Nov 2022 to Jan 31, 2023, we hope you join us in our “Share your Zen Space” campaign. Just like last year, whenever you meditate, please share a photo of your meditation space or setting on our FB page. It can be a photo of your usual sitting area or the weather as you look out the window. In fact, thoughts in the form of video or text are welcomed too. The point is to encourage ourselves and the community to stick with our regular meditation habit.
So as you wind down for the year, remember when you meditate, feel free to share with us a photo of your meditation space at https://www.facebook.com/nonezencenter.

None Zen Center
We are None Zen Center, a community to advance your Zen practice. At the None Zen Center, Zen meditation is not about looking for relaxation, tranquility, or stillness; it is about knowing your self and your true nature. By practicing Zen meditation, you are uncovering your self, revealing your true nature, just as Gautama Buddha did thousands of years ago.
The Center’s founding masters, Shifu (master or teacher) Linda Huang and Shifu Jeremy Wei, received Dharma Transmission from Zen master Guoru (Chn. 果如) and, therefore, inherited the teaching of Linji (Chn. 臨濟, Jpn. Rinzai), Caodong (Chn. 曹洞, Jpn. Soto), and Dharma Drum (Chn. 法鼓) lineages. We started our first meditation center in Taipei, Taiwan in 2013. In 2015, we found our San Jose Center in California, USA, and, two years later, the third meditation site in Tainan, Taiwan in December 2017. To provide our meditation service to the global community, we began the Online Zen School with on-demand video classes since 2019. And from February 2020, we started to provide Zen classes in Manchester, UK.
The San Jose, Manchester, and Taiwan (Taipei and Tainan) Centers are three independent organizations. San Jose Center is a US-based 501(C)3 non-profit organization (EIN:47-5579819), Taiwan Center is a TW-based non-profit organization (registered no. 108年法登社字111號), and Manchester Center is a registered charitable incorporated organization (CIO) in the UK (registered charity no. 1190661). We provide Zen meditation courses for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners. All meditation classes provided in the Centers are tuition-free, and all are welcome to join us to step into the journey of uncovering self-nature.
